Ozone Therapy

Ozone is one of the most popular forms of oxidation therapy used around the world in the management of a variety of health conditions.

Over 23, 000 physicians and naturopaths use it in Europe and it is very popular in Russia and Cuba. Even here in the U.S. it is being used by hundreds of physicians and is gaining rapidly in popularity. Oxidation therapies all work based on a very simple premise. Unlike healthy human cells which thrive on oxygen, unhealthy cells like cancer cells and those infected with disease causing organisms perish at optimal oxygen levels in the affected tissues.

Ozone, like hydrogen peroxide and singlet oxygen all work because they flood the tissues with single oxygen atoms and it’s by-products which are very energetic oxidizers. These molecules destroy harmful cells and anaerobic organisms like viruses, bacteria, funguses and parasites that tend to thrive where oxygen is deficient. Normal body cells protect themselves from the oxidizing effects of oxygen by naturally producing their own protective antioxidant coatings and enzymes that render these oxidizers harmless. Furthermore, optimal oxygen levels are vital for the normal processing and removal of toxins from the body.

Some of the reasons why this form of therapy makes so much sense, is the fact that most of us suffer from localized or systemic oxygen deficiencies. One reason is that oxygen levels in our atmosphere is down significantly in the past 100 years and down a lot more compared to even 10,000 years ago. As we age, we also loose a lot of our oxygen carrying capacity due to decreased lung and cardiovascular capacity through the natural effects of aging itself. This is further magnified when disease is added to the picture. Because of our poor diets and stress we also tend to become very acidic further reducing oxygen delivery to the tissues. Under these circumstances of relative oxygen deficiency we see much higher rates of immune dysfunction, infections, cancer, autoimmune disease and all kinds of degenerative diseases.

Ozone is very versatile in terms of how it can be administered therapeutically. It can be administered as an ear insufflation to treat ear and sinus infections or it can be inhaled for the treatment of sinus, throat or lung conditions always after being bubbled through olive oil. Ozone should never be inhaled at high levels directly because it will irritate and harm the respiratory tract. Some air treatment devices produce small amounts of ozone that will clean the air of infectious harmful organisms without irritating the airways. It can also be used as an insufflation into the rectum, vagina or even bladder. This method of administration compares well in terms of blood concentrations achieved compared to direct injection of ozone into the blood stream. Direct injection into affected tissues is also a viable option and so is intravenous administration of ozone saturated IV fluids. There are dozens of other ways it can be used.

Benefits that have been reported with the use of ozone are a mile long. By the way, you will recognize that all the benefits derived from ozone are similar to those you get with optimal oxygenation of the body and all its cells and tissues. Those include: enhances immune system function, fights infections of almost all types, speeds healing of injuries and fractures, improves circulation and heart problems, boosts vitality, energy and fat burning, combats depression and autoimmune diseases, heightens alertness and memory, improves skin health and cellulite, boosts liver and kidney functions, increases lymph drainage, has anti tumor effects, helps alleviate dizziness and weakness, improves digestion and absorption of nutrients and calms nerves, is used in the treatment of gangrene, fibromyalgia syndrome, Lymes disease, asthma, Ebstein Barr viral infections, treatments of headaches, dementia, constipation, peripheral neuropathies and M.S. The list goes on and on.

In upcoming newsletters we will discuss other exciting forms of oxidation therapy such as oxygen therapy, hyperbaric oxygen, hydrogen peroxide through IV and oral administration, and ultraviolet blood irradiation combined with ozone therapy.
